The 2024/25 MTN Elite One season is off to an exciting start, and match day 2 delivered plenty of action. Here’s a recap of the weekend’s games:
Panthère du Nde Struggles Continue
After losing their opening game to PWD Bamenda, Panthère du Nde couldn’t bounce back. They were beaten 2-0 by Fauve d’Azur at the Bamendzi Stadium in Mbouda, with Philippe Essama scoring both goals for Fauve Azur.
YOSA and Bamboutos Share Spoils
Yong Sports Academy (YOSA) of Bamenda, looking to recover from their 3-0 defeat to Victoria United on match day 1, faced Bamboutos of Mbouda. The Mangwa Boys, playing at home, failed to take advantage of their fans as the game ended in a goalless draw.
Canon de Yaoundé Snatch a Point Against Victoria United
Defending champions Victoria United (Opopo) faced Canon de Yaoundé (Kpa Kum) at the Yaoundé Military Stadium. Victoria took the lead but couldn’t hold on as Canon equalized in the dying moments, ending the game 1-1.
Dynamo de Douala Finally Win at Home
Dynamo de Douala (Bon Ba Djob) ended their eight-game home winless streak with a 1-0 victory over PWD Bamenda. Florent Batoum’s lone goal sealed the win in a much-needed boost for the home side.
Union de Douala and Aigle Royal Draw
In another Douala match, Union de Douala faced Aigle Royal de Moungo. The game ended 1-1, with neither side managing to find a winner.
Astres de Douala Run Riot
Astres de Douala, nicknamed the Brazilians of Bepanda, put on a show against Stade Renard de Melong, thrashing last season’s playoff finalists 4-1. Astres registered the most goals scored on match day 2.
Coton Sport Grab First Win
In the North, Coton Sport de Garoua picked up a crucial 1-0 victory over AS Fortuna, while Gazelle FA and Colombe du Dja played out a goalless draw.
