MTN ELITE ONE Matchday 21 Preview: Games To Watch

In this edition of the MTN ELITE ONE preview, we will focus on the games with high stakes, which can make or mar a club’s entire season. Will Canon of Yaounde confirm its qualification for the playoffs? Or will the three-horse race for the two playoff spots in Group A go down to the wire? Stay with us as we preview Matchday 21

  1. Canon De Yaounde Vs Aigle Royal de la Menoua
  • DATE: 22nd OF APRIL 2023.
  • KICK-OFF: 3:30 p.m.
  • VENUE: ANNEX 1 OF YAOUNDE OMNISPORT STADIUM

We start our preview with a crunch game between group A leaders Canon De Yaounde against 4th placed Aigle De la Menoua. A victory for the leaders will take them to the brink of qualification for the playoffs. In fact, Canon can book their playoff spot if they register a win here and UMS Loum fails to win.

Aigle De la Menoua, on their part, is only partially safe from the danger of relegation and will be desperate for points.

  1. UMS De Loum Vs Eding Sports FC de la Lekie
  • DATE: 22nd OF APRIL 2023.
  • KICK-OFF: 3:30 p.m.
  • VENUE: ANNEX 1, DOUALA REUNIFICATION STADIUM

UMS De Loum suffered a chastening 4-1 defeat to Coton Sport of Garoua last time out. This defeat and a 3 points deduction mean the two teams are both on 30 points ahead of this day-21 games. Loum dropped to 3rd, while Coton Sport moved one place above them on goal difference.

2022 championship contenders Eding Sports are in real danger of relegation, sitting just two points above bottom club Avion Academy. A defeat here could spell big trouble for the club, who came so close to being crowned champions only last season.

In the other Group A games, there will be a pair of relegation dogfights in Douala and Yaounde. At the Stade Mbappe Leppe,bottom-club Avion Academy will clash with Djiko FC of Yaounde, both on 21 points and currently in the relegation zone. Rennaisance de Ngoumou and Colombe Sportif du Dja will face-off at the CAF excellence centre in Mbankomo.

Coton Sports of Garoua will face off with PWD of Bamenda at the Roumde Adjia stadium. Coton will be gunning for victory as their title defense gains steam. PWD, meanwhile, will be hoping to upset the odds as they continue their fight to maintain their ELITE ONE status.

All games take off at 3:30 pm prompt.
In group B, Apejes of Mfou, Fovu de Baham, and Gazelle of Garoua will be battling for the last available playoff spot after Bamboutous of Mbouda booked their place in the playoffs following their one-all draw against Astres last time out. Fovu can condemn Yafoot to relegation if they take all three points at the Bamendzi Stadium in Baffoussam.

Already relegated Dragon de Yaounde will be looking to spoil the party for AS Fortuna as they seek to escape relegation. The match will be played at Annex A of the Olembe Stadium.

So there it is! Your weekend lineup of the MTN ELITE ONE Championship action, Enjoy!
